Firetrace’s New E4 System Redefines Total Flooding Suppression

The ability of the E 4 product to flow Novec 1230 fluid long distances is unparalleled in our industry!  Complex pipe layout?  E4 handles it with ease!  An existing Halon or other agent system…want to reuse the pipe?  E4 does the job quickly and simply.  Plus, with our 1,300 lb. capacity cylinder, it provides for the lowest installed cost available today!

Firetrace International used International Firex in the UK to showcase its new E4 total-flooding system, the 4th evolution of clean agent systems that the company confidently predicts will redefine the global total-flooding gaseous fire suppression market.

In addition to incorporating a number of innovative engineering developments, the new E4 system offers system installers greater flexibility, speedier installation, significantly lower overall installed cost and a measurable competitive edge.  End-user benefits come in the form of a much lower financial outlay when compared with other systems on the market, and greatly improved design freedom.  Significantly, by merely replacing the cylinders and nozzles, E4 provides a swift, least-cost transition from an existing Halon system to 3M™ Novec™ 1230 Fire Protection Fluid clean agent technology.

Firetrace’s E4 offers the undeniable benefits of 500 psi (34.5 bar) high pressure efficiency while utilizing low pressure hardware that has been optimized for the characteristics of Novec 1230 Fire Protection Fluid. The system is designed to drastically slash the amount of piping used, with savings on distribution network alone being typically between 25 percent and 40 percent.

At the same time, the constraint of having limited flexibility in balancing the amount of agent at Bull T and Side T connections has been overcome, plus extra pipe lengths between tees is either minimal or completely unnecessary.  With E4, the Bull T split can be up to an 85/15 split, while the Side T can be as much as a 95/5 split.

The actuation system has been designed to be stackable, and the cylinder storage problems often associated with gaseous total flooding systems have been consigned to the history books.  With the new Firetrace offering, the distance between the agent storage cylinder and the discharge nozzle is more than three times longer than old-technology systems on the market, significantly increasing the vertical distance capability.  The liquid agent-to-pipe volumes are up by 500 percent; and higher fill density means more agent in the same hardware.  And all of this is achieved without the need to incorporate expensive Nitrogen driver systems, so installing the largest possible networks without having to resort to incorporating extra equipment.

Firetrace believes that as many as 75 percent of existing Halon distribution networks can be easily and cost-effectively refitted with its E4 utilizing the existing piping.  This presents installation companies with a major business opportunity while, for end user organizations with Halon systems, it offers the very real prospect of minimized system downtime and the shortest possible business interruption as well as substantial cost savings.

The new solution also provides an opportunity for end users to fully embrace sustainable and environmentally-welcome technology in the form of Novec 1230 Fire Protection Fluid.  This agent broke new ground when it was introduced and has become the much-preferred replacement for Halon 1301.  It leaves no residue to clean-up after discharge, and does not damage the sensitive electronic equipment or documents it is intended to protect.  Novec 1230 is also safe for discharge in occupied areas, offering the highest safety margin of any clean agents.

Firetrace’s E4 system fully complies with every aspect of NFPA 2001: 2012 and BS EN 15004:2008, the standards on clean agent fire extinguishing systems.
