Frequently Asked Questions For Distributors

When can I begin selling Kidde Fire Systems products?

We encourage you to begin selling KFS systems immediately. For those who are familiar with the KFS systems and design concepts, this should be an easy transition. A part number cross reference list is available on the new KFS website (link). If you are not yet familiar with KFS systems or hardware, it’s okay, because your legacy brand system will still be available for new system projects until March 31, 2015. See below for additional details.

Can I continue to sell FPS or CFS systems?

Yes. FPS and CFS systems will continue to be available as NEW systems until March 31, 2015. Additionally, Fenwal sphere / BDC systems and Cardox LPCO2 systems will continue to be available indefinitely. Further announcements on any naming changes or aesthetic changes will be announced at a later date. We encourage you to pay close attention to training opportunities to begin the brand / system conversion process as soon as possible.

When will FPS or CFS systems be unavailable?

As noted above, NEW FPS and CFS systems can be purchased until March 31, 2015. After this date, standard parts will be available as spare service parts only. Your regional manager will contact you very shortly… please ensure you discuss any long-term needs for legacy equipment if applicable to your current sales pipeline, as soon as possible.

What will happen to my current service business?

We expect that, your established and solid relationship with your customers will enable you to maintain your current service business without difficulty. In some cases, the Kidde Fire Systems business evolution may represent an opportunity to service other systems that have not been properly maintained through authorized channels in the past. Additionally, only trained personnel should be servicing appropriate systems, and thus, Kidde Fire Systems does not feel this change represents a significant change in maintaining your service business. Please let us know if you desire more detailed discussion with any specific end users about your status as an authorized distributor or your technician’s training history. We are here to support you.

What if I have to expand a legacy branded system?

Please contact our technical services group for further guidance on expansion of existing legacy systems.

When can I get trained on new equipment?

We know that training is important to allow you to take advantage of some of the new opportunities you will have. As part of our launch plan, we will provide a new training catalog for 2015, which will include systems new to some of our distribution. We encourage you to take part in appropriate training. Our first training offering will be provided by your Regional Sales Manager at no cost.

Can I get trained on legacy equipment that will be phased out?

At present, our focus is on training all our distribution on the hardware that they will be selling (and of course servicing) going forward. In the future, we will evaluate the need for service focused training on legacy hardware.

Can I have access to LPCO2 systems? Vehicle systems? Marine systems?

If you want access to any of these three systems, we will require a comprehensive business plan that will be reviewed by your regional manager, vertical market manager and sales director. Please discuss with your Regional Sales Manager.

What is the future of Marioff North America and how are they affected by this strategy?

There will be no change in current strategy as it relates to Marioff North America.

What will your pricing / discount structure be in this new brand?

Similar strategy / policy. We expect that Kidde Fire Systems’ single-brand strategy will provide you further opportunity and incentive to achieve larger discounts with us.

What is the long-term strategy on Spheres and BDC?

There is no change to our currently stated sphere and BDC systems strategy. FM approval for both is currently phased out. Both will be available with UL listings only for those distributors who maintain appropriate training and ATF licensing.

Timing for transition? How will you support existing brands for existing projects based on legacy equipment?

As noted above, NEW FPS and CFS systems can be purchased until March 31, 2015. After this date, standard parts will be available as spare / service parts only. Your regional manager will contact you very shortly… please ensure you discuss any long-term needs for legacy equipment if applicable to your current sales pipeline, as soon as possible.

What is the future of the Chemetron factory service team?

We will continue to offer factory services primarily in areas that do NOT represent conflict with our distribution network. For example, we will provide service/maintenance on LPCO2 in power gen and cement plants.

How will the Kidde Fire Systems announcement be rolled out globally?

The single-brand strategy will be global. While timing and specifics regarding logistics and rollout may be different, we will work toward doing business as one Kidde Fire Systems family globally as soon as feasible.

When can I expect new marketing content and information based on the Kidde Fire Systems brand?

There will be a lot of work on marketing / technical content. We will provide every distributor a ‘startup’ kit similar to what we would do for new distributors. The contents of this package will provide a sampling of what will be available through our on-demand print service and data sheets online. It will also include marketing guidelines and digital files for logos, sales promotion pieces and more, allowing you to move forward with your own communications.

How will this impact air sampling strategy?

The Kidde Fire Systems product development roadmap is not drastically impacted by this change. We expect to become more efficient in our ability to develop and launch new products by focusing on one brand and one customer network. Air sampling is an important part of our product portfolio and development activities. We are currently working on ways to bolster and improve this offering.

What pricing advantage will I see based on your improved efficiencies?

We strongly believe we can improve our competitiveness in the market through a variety of initiatives including this business unification. Our primary efficiency gains will be in the areas of new product development, customer / technical service and training. Our 2015 price information will be available shortly.

What will happen to the Burr Ridge office?

We have not made specific plans concerning individual facilities. We fully expect the Burr Ridge team (as well as the entire team in Ashland) to offer increased and unified support to the Kidde Fire Systems brand moving forward.

Will you be downsizing resources?

Our intent is to optimize the organization and grow market share… while there is no intent to reduce headcount or institute major organizational change, some minor changes are likely to be implemented in the coming months. This business unification should be viewed as a growth strategy not a contraction of the business.
